Buzz Aldrin's 'Rocket Experience' (w/ Snoop Dogg)

Posted by Admin August 18, 2010

The video opens with Buzz Aldrin in a recording booth with Snoop Dogg and Talib Kweli manning the equipment.

Buzz Aldrin (rapping)
: all you need is the rocket experience.

Snoop Dogg: Ooooohhhhh.

Talib Kweli
: Now that’s what I’m talking about.

Snoop Dogg: That’s hot right there, man.

Talib Kweli: Buzz Aldrin’s got his bars up.

The words – The making of Buzz Aldrin’s Rocket Experience – appear.

Talib Kweli: You see he made up a dance?

Snoop Dogg: he did, didn’t he? all you need is the rocket experience. that was gangsta.

The shot cuts to Buzz Aldrin.

Buzz Aldrin: I have only two passions. Space exploration and hip-hop.

The shot cuts to Talib Kweli.

Talib Kweli: People in the rap game, we’ve known about Buzz for years. The group Blackstar, people think we named it after Marcus Garvey andthe whole Blackstar line. No, it’s named after Buzz. Dr. Rendezvous, cause you know because he had those orbital rendezvous techniques hedeveloped at MIT.

Soulja Boy: The person who had the biggest inspiration on my, oneverything I do as far as music and production and just everything hasto be Buzz Aldrin. The best that ever did it.

The shot cuts to Quincy Jones.

Quincy Jones: I saw the first moonwalk. We saw the guys get off thespaceship and the gravity, lack of gravity and everything else. and allof them was cool, but the one Buzz, my man Buzz, the brother had agreat groove going on. You know, he had this great groove going on. Hehad this little step, this little step going on. he was cool.

The shot cuts to Talib Kweli.

Talib Kweli: The song, Whitey on the Moon, Gil Scott Heron what youthought he was talking about LBJ and Nixon? No, he was talking aboutBuzz Aldrin.

The shot cuts to a still of Gil Scott Heron and a clip is played from Whitey on the Moon.

Gil Scott Heron: I can’t pay no doctor bills, but whitey’s on the moon.

The shot cuts to Buzz Aldrin.

Buzz Aldrin: Gil and I are cool now. I explained to him that we came in peace for all mankind and he backed off.

The shot cuts to Talib Kweli.

Talib Kweli: People think of hip-hop, they think of beefs. We have eastcoast/west coast beefs. Down south/up top beefs. but it doesn’t compareto beef between earth walkers and moon walkers, which I think is a waymore dangerous beef.

The shot cuts to Buzz Aldrin.

Buzz Aldrin: I don’t have any beef with the earth walkers.

The shot cuts to Snoop Dogg, Buzz Aldrin, and Talib Kweli sitting together.

Snoop Dogg: We was posted up at my pad, playing a little video game,Fight Night 4, and Buzz leaned over and was like, “Yo, Snoop. I’mthinking about doing this record to commemorate my fortieth yearanniversary of walking on the moon.”

Buzz Aldrin: say, you know, Snoop, you gotta do a little more work on your left jab there too.

Snoop Dogg: Not gonna do that.

Talib Kweli: I was shocked when Buzz hit me on Twitter and was like,Yo, I’m working on this album, but he wanted to get more of thisunderground feel, so he had to bring me in. I had to do my thing on therecord.

Buzz Aldrin
: well, it sure is fun Twittering with you.

Talib Kweli: oh yeah, you know, I’m the Twitter King you know.

The shot cuts back to Buzz Aldrin in the recording booth with Snoop Dogg and Talib Kweli manning the equipment.

Buzz Aldrin (rapping): I’ll tell a story bout my time on the moon now.The sky was black even though the sun shined down. Moon walking’s sucha trip. It’s so fine when…

Buzz Aldrin and backup singers: …you’re walking in the lunar dust.

The shot cuts to Talib Kweli.

Talib Kweli
: I really admire the way Buzz takes chances. Like how hechallenged the NASA Space Program and even the track itself. is there aword for something you can’t explain in words? Ineffable. I think thatwould be the word, ineffable. that track in ineffable.

The shot cuts to Buzz Aldrin in the recording booth.

Buzz Aldrin (rapping)
: Imagine a place above the sky. Riding orbits inninety minutes time. all you need is to come with me. I’ll be yourguide.

Backup Singers: to go flying into outer space.

Buzz Aldrin (rapping)
: I am the spaceman.

Backup Singers: See this world as a beautiful place.

The shot cuts to Buzz Aldrin and Talib Kweli in the recording booth.

Talib Kweli: so, Buzz, I’m curious. What you think about this autotune trend in music nowadays?

Buzz Aldrin: well, listen, that’s no good. It’s all played out. I don’t want to have anything to do with that.

Talib Kweli: so no autotunes on this song.

Buzz Aldrin: No, no, no.

Talib Kweli: Ok.

The shot cuts to Snoop Dogg, Buzz Aldrin, and Talib Kweli sitting together listening to the track.

Song playback: all you need is the rocket experience.

Snoop Dogg
: Yo, man, I think we need to tone the beat down just a little cause we gonna lose the message. It’s too hard.

The shot cuts to Snoop Dogg and Buzz Aldrin in the recording booth.

Snoop Dogg (softly): all you need is the rocket experience. (To BuzzAldrin) so when you say it, visualize yourself performing it. Put alittle more attitude in it.

Buzz Aldrin (with more attitude): going up in a rocket.

Snoop Dogg: exactly. Like if you was flying in space.

Buzz Aldrin (with more attitude)
: all you need is the rocket experience. all you need is the rocket experience.

Buzz Aldrin and Snoop Dogg
: all you need is the rocket experience. Allyou need is the rocket experience. all you need is the rocketexperience.

Snoop Dogg: There it is. Tape that!

Buzz Aldrin: I think I gotcha. I think I gotcha.

Snoop Dogg: Tape it. That’s it, that’s it. Tape that.

The shot cuts to Talib Kweli reading out of the book MagnificentDesolation: The Long Journey Home from the Moon, by Buzz Aldrin and KenAbraham.

Talib Kweli: You all gotta read this book, man. Buzz Aldrin is so gansta.

The shot cuts to Snoop Dogg.

Snoop Dog: Now Buzz, you need a remix of the song and I got you. I’mgonna do it G mix style. (rapping) From the ground to the fly to thehigh to the sky to the clouds to the stars, to mars. Till the stars cansee, it’s me, the D O G, to the moon consume, let the base go boom, wecan fly in a rocket, got the smoke in a socket, you could put it inyour pocket, unlock it, I’m a rocket. It’s Snoop, he hooked up withBuzz, that’s my cuz. I’m gonna show you what it is. Now you know whatit was. That’s the G mix. fly with the space.

Reed Dollaz (He Might be The Best Rapper in Philly)

Posted by Admin August 18, 2010

Reed Dollaz reppin the Topklass crew, a very well known and respected underground rapper from South West Philadelphia has been putting it down on the mic since he was 16, I first saw him on Freestyle Friday at 106 and Park a couple of years ago where he was disqualified because he said the “N” word. he would have won if he did’nt get disqualified, since then he has evolved into a full blown MC and many are saying he might be the best underground rapper in Philly and I agree, I’ve been watching this kid for long time and he grows more and more every time he rhymes. he climbed his way up through winning rap battles and spitting hot freestyles and recently as been gettig even more exposure due to his on going BEEF (Rivalry) with another hot underground Philadelphia rapper by the name of Joey Jihad a.k.a Jihaddy from the go Gettas crew. They have been back and forth for a while and they have together brought allot of attention to Philly and the east coast, with the current hip hop drought in the east coast, the underground scene is definitely delivering what is missing from the game, which are the lyrical MCs. Pay attention to Philly the next couple months, I wouldn’t be surprised if the next lyrical rappers to get signed comes from Philly. Check out one of Reed Dollaz many freestyles below, allot more to come.

Bow Wow Announces Retirement and Speaks on Acting Career

I am 22 years old (same as Bow Wow) and I just graduated college with my Bachelor’s degree in January and going to law school in the Fall. To see this young man being able to retire at age 22 is a significant accomplishment. He dropped 7 albums and they all were either Gold or multi-platinum albums. I always had great respect for Bow Wow because he was always a young man doing for himself. I always see other young men hating on Bow Wow but the hate is simply because they are jealous of his accomplishments. Most of these dudes hating because ain’t nobody knocking at their door asking to sign them to a record label. They are saying Bow Wow is wack but he has that deal that you were looking for. So I guess wack knows wack. He is where you wanna be. I love to seeing young people going places and at 22 years old Bow Wow should be a role model for most of us. He should serve as motivation for us and letting people know that it’s time to get your grind. When you work hard and you have enjoy your success. Congratulations Bow Wow on all your accomplishments and I wish you continued success.

Haters should be ashamed. Stop hating and go get ya money up.

Searching For Swag: Music to Fans' Ears

Posted by Admin August 18, 2010

Forget about MySpace. Music groups are now turning to branded search engines to reach their fans online.

By using the special search engines, fans earn points that can be redeemed for band swag, like T-shirts, posters, and autographed guitars, as well as etched iPods and other electronics, movie tickets, music, and books.

Ted Nugent fans can even win a hunting trip with the carnivorous rocker.

“It makes the bands look tech-savvy. they don’t look so old and legacy-like,” says Hab Haddad, vice president of business development at music management firm McGhee Entertainment. The firm represents Ted Nugent, Hootie and the Blowfish, and KISS, a favorite among Internet searchers, apparently.

Barry Manilow’s site is also pretty popular, says Ron Leshem, vice president of marketing at Prodege, the firm that creates and markets the sites. KISS and Manilow are each “getting a check every month in the multiple thousand-dollar range,” he says.

The KISS search site has a nice big picture of the photogenic band in all their face-painted glory, and a search box for Web, news, images, or video searches for anything your heart desires. The results are powered by Google and ask. it gets about 20,000 unique visitors a month, according to Leshem.

KISS has a custom, branded Web search site where you can earn band swag for searching.

(Credit:KISS/Prodege)

You earn “Swag Bucks” as you search on the site, or any of the other approximately 80 celebrity-branded search sites, which include Beyonce, Wynonna Judd, Willie Nelson, Hilary Duff, the Indiana Pacers, the Indianapolis Colts, and New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss.

for 45 Swag Bucks you can get a $5 credit at Starbucks; 325 Swag Bucks gets you KISS fragrance for men; and for 2,500 Swag Bucks you can get a Gene Simmons Gold Record (Rare Production Sample).

It’s unclear how many searches you have to conduct to get a point. People tend to win about five times a day, and you can get matching Swag Bucks for referring friends, according to Leshem.

for the band management firms, signing up for a branded search site is a no-brainer. they earn, on average, 15 cents per click on a sponsored link; they get traffic to the bands’ other Web sites through a toolbar fans can install; and they get rid of promotional items from tours that are just laying around the band office, says Haddad.

I’m waiting for the Spinal Tap search site, myself.

murda mook is he just freestlying or does he have “real” songs?

u know like an album or a mixtape
yea it the more i see him, the more it seems like he recycles written stuff. but the lines he recycles are hot

murda mook is he just freestlying or does he have “real” songs?

Jean Grae: 'I Am Hip-Hop'

Posted by Admin August 18, 2010

September 19, 2008 – The “real” Jean Grey is a superheroine: Jean Grey-Summers, who’s down with Marvel Comics’ X-Men crew. that Jean Grey has boundless telepathic powers, can defy death and manipulate life and matter any way she wants.

As for the rapper with the comic book alias, what’s she got to wage war with the forces of darkness?

“Gardening and making pita bread,” jokes Jean Grae, the 31-year-old MC.

Grae admits that she’s a comic-book nerd but that she opts for more down-to-earth pursuits, like cooking, in her off time. “I will definitely get up to cook,” she says. “It’s another creative process. You’re getting to make something from scratch, and create something that didn’t exist before.”

The key ingredient on Grae’s new album, Jeanius, is production whiz 9th Wonder. He’s been the master chef behind tracks for Mos Def, Destiny’s Child and Mary J. Blige.

Jeanius, the fourth full-length solo disc from the Cape Town-born, new York-bred rapper, was supposed to come out in 2004. A stalled release date couldn’t stop bootleggers, who have been spreading the songs across the Web for years. Grae has learned that tough 21st century lesson about success: Make music people love, and your fans will even steal to get their hands on it.

No Swimsuits

Grae had already earned props among hip-hop fans. Her success came partly for what she wasn’t: namely, a female MC sexing up her act just to move units.

“I think for the first photo shoots I started doing, I did repeatedly call my publicist and say, ‘Can you do me a favor? Can you tell them to stop bringing swimsuits? Because there’s really no use for them. and it’s not going to happen,’ ” she recalls.

When Jeanius was shelved indefinitely, Web-savvy fans dubbed countless bootleg copies, and the album was officially an “unofficial” hit. since the disc has gone legit, Grae went back to give it another listen. She tuned in partly with a critical ear — Grae is, after all, a classically trained musician and the daughter of two jazz artists.

A Personal Journey

Going back to Jeanius was also a personal journey. when she pressed play on the track “My Story” — an autobiographical cut about abortion — she says, “It was a good cry. But it was finally being in comfortable place to talk about it and really detail the whole thing and not trying to sugarcoat anything.”

Grae dropped another personal bomb on her fans earlier this year: She announced her retirement from the rap game, at least for now. Grae made the move, she says, because of issues with her record label.

“So I just kinda stepped away,” she says. “And I was like, ‘Before I make myself completely sick and end up in jail with the rest of the female rappers, I’m gonna just chill out and see what happens right now.’”

A few months later, Jeanius hit stores. It’s an uneven product that gets bogged down at times by sing-songy hooks and beats that don’t inspire. For an MC with such a dynamic moniker, it’s surprising to hear Grae get locked in a wooden, two-dimensional flow at times. At her best, though, Grae cracks open a can of flawless confidence.

Right now, Jean Grae is thinking outside of hip-hop. She wants to start a family, perfect her cooking skills and maybe do some work in film. But she’s not likely to stray too far from the world that made her don a superheroine’s name. from the way she talks about rap, it’s clear that Grae’s a junkie for life.

“I really, really love hip-hop very, very much,” she says. “And I can’t really say, ‘I quit.’ Because you can’t. you can’t quit. That’s impossible. I am hip-hop.”

Jean Grae: 'I Am Hip-Hop'
